Installing Arch in 15 Minutes: Desktop
This will be my first Linux laptop. I can't wait to buy this in about one month. I have been a Linux user for years but bought other laptops and switch to Linux. I then try Windows for a while and get sick and tired of it. I mean I just can't stand it! How people use this is beyond me. And I will not put myself through this torture.
Could anyone help me out ? I dual booted more than 4 linux distribution and fedora on my laptop and still brightness doesn't work for some reason and thats actually so frustrating
I can change the value of the brightness but it stays the same with no effects thats the only reason keeping me away from using linux
So I am super lost on the /data directory. I didn't see you create one and I don't have it listed on my system.
Interesting comparison. I'm learning development, and searching which distro to switch from Windows. I think I'll go for Fedora, since I want a simple work out of the box. There's always a future opportunity to try out other distros, ofc.. Thanks!
build quality is trash
How Does Open Suse 15 work in this ?
I can go all the until choosing the timezone, after that step says "Something went wrong"
fedora is good , but release to short
I had to create account so i could state my case. Ubuntu 24.04 is literally the best linux distro i had the experience with. Up until now, i used to switch between mint (after distro hopping) and windows (previous Ubuntu's versions were way too buggy). I thought, why not give it another try. Literally for the first time, everything worked out of the box, no missing WiFi drivers, the internet speed is as equal as the one on windows, but most importantly, the fractional scaling at 125% works like a charm. I am running it on the work laptop from 2019 equipped with intel pentium 4417u and 8gb of ram, it's quite snappy. They did something because even fedora didn't run that fast or popos in my case. As for my beloved Mint Cinnamon, wayland is still in the experimental phase.
I saw you booted up with Ubuntu. Did the brightness and sound keys work with Ubuntu?
Fedora 40 Gnome on desktop- beautiful. Ubuntu 24.04 on laptop awesome on 240hz -runs better. Both incredible. No Ai scans. I'm back!
i successfully installed the fist 20 distros of distrowatch, except Fedora, because, the"reclaim space" is not clearly explained for me, all other distros!!! will go with the existing partitions, i can declare to them: use this existing ext4 /home as /home, the existing fat as /boot/efi and the btrfs as your /, but not Fedora, their is no possibility to declare this to the install prog , always things must by erased. To the moment, i found no solution for my fears, that other installations, on different HDDs will be successfully nuked.
To be honest im not that surprised, those 7040 series amd mobile chips are beasts!
Would love to know your thoughts on battery life (especially since AMD has a big power drain during video playback). How much are you getting out of it? If it's comparable to the 8 hours I get on my 3,5 year old Lenovo yoga slim then the FW13 is definitely my next laptop.
I end up using mine almost entirely plugged in but there is a great thread with a bunch of different operating systems and real world results on the Framework forums: community.frame.work/t/real-world-battery-life-experience-fw13-amd/39112/46
Impressive. Rocks my NUC 14. Smooth.
Fedora KDE for the win
Steam on the App store U24 is still jank. Just install old fashioned way through the terminal and it works perfectly.
That arrow key arrangement is the same as the one on a 1986 Apple ADB keyboard. Was a disaster then, too.
I checked their site and it looks like they updated it to have a standard layout
The video is fantastic but the audio can be worked on
Am installing fedora 40 on my hp proliant ml110 g5 server as I am watching this video
1 month later it has same problem
Yup I was hoping they would fix it, but it isn't a good look for anyone who wants to try Linux and is immediately blocked
@@LinuxBTW and this is the distro with BIG COMPANY behind. What we can expect from smaller players?
Ubuntu 24.04 is fast and nice but i did have program errors ubuntu still needs work
I just got a new ssd drive and tried installing Ubuntu 24.04 it got stuck at installing system, when I canceled it and then rebooted my device it showed that it has been installed and I was able to login and use it, I don't know if it is installed properly, it didn't show any error, please any help?
i remember installing fedora months ago on a new office PC and going back to win on the same day because I couldn't set the scaling to between 100 and 200% as well as the 60hz. to me those are the most fundamental features of my current OS. instead I'm using windows while watching Linux videos to see if things have changed lol
Love the audio, keep it up
What the heck where they thinking about the arrow keys???
I love ubuntu I currently have snaps and flatpaks No issues
is lemur pro opitomized for running fedora?
Tried fedora many times and never enjoyed it. Things didnt work, graphical glitches and lots of errors.
Hey, iam currently running a Mac book M1 Max for my Computer Science Studies and I'm thinking of buying a framework amd version to use linux/windows. Do you think It will be a massiv downgrade? or will it serve me well? Are you still happy with it?
It will be a downgrade. The M1 Max is a beast.
Trying to install, the menu keeps just closing on me before I can even begin to install from the live-boot USB. I'm rebuilding a media server and was going to fresh install from 18.04 to 24.04... but it's not working at all. So maybe I'll try going to 18.04 again, since I know that worked for me, lol. (All data is on seperate RAID / backed up)
It looks like they've upgrade this keyboard layout since your video. I checked Internet Time Machine back 2 months ago and it has the old layout, but the website has a newer one.
Why does the keyboard on the website show a totally different layout for the up and down keys than this video? Did they update it recently?
Same confusion here, can someone update?
@@puguan3355 it looks like they updated it. I checked the internet Time Machine and the website, 2 months ago, showed the layout shown in this video. Now, the website has the updated version. I just ordered one after finding out this has been fixed.
They switched to a more standard keyboard. I'd bought one before the change and couldn't ever hit the right-shift even after using it for a week. If it weren't for the original keyboard, I would have kept it, but had to return it solely for that reason. Good thing for satisfaction guarantee! Then I was checking the System 76 site to show someone how wonky the keyboard was and noticed that the keyboard had changed. I contacted them to ensure that it was real and went and bought another with the better keyboard.
99.9% every update on Fedora you have to restart. It's annoying
So, new version of Ubuntu has bugs. Wait for next version, got it.
i like the keyboard except the right shift please make that big.
I wanted to spec out a system76 with 48GB and a high end intel Ultra. But no way I’m doing that when it has a PLASTIC chassis
that keyboard is wild
I really enjoy your videos a lot more than a lot of others. You don’t sit there and inject a ton of opinions you just show us what’s happening.
This wideo show Fedora os better. Ubuntu is.. BUGbuntu.
Lemur, like the animal. Lol, but I like that you made it fancy French. :D
Haha I said it this way so many times I couldn't fix it later, but really adds some sophistication to it all
LMDE for me pls😊
I was enjoying Fedora 39 since the start of the year, when I tried upgrading to 40, it blew up in my face. My install became unusable. Fortunately I had everything backed up. Now I'm on Zorin, it's ok.
I pick Fedora 40 instead of ubuntu , don't like Snap
that is the only Linux laptop for beginner friendly?
Major difference between the two is Ubuntu is for newbies while Fedora requires some Linux knowledge and the only common thing between them is the Gnome Desktop.
out of my experience, fedora was always quite a bit easier to use and you dont need to use the terminal as much. my parents could figure out fedora. ubuntu wasnt bad but it took more time for them to figure out
I'd go with Ubuntu because technically they do Gnome the best with their accent color choices, sane defaults, extra features and their exclusive triple buffering vsync support that makes it a buttery smooth vsynced experience. Gnome without triple buffering can be a stuttery and low framerate mess, especially on low-end hardware, not so on Ubuntu though. Ubuntu is also easier when installing proprietary drivers, because it gets done automatically during the installation - or - post installation via two or three clicks. Ubuntu has more options enabled within Gnome too, whether that's app indicators or an actual taskbar that can be configured to your desire. I could go on and on - it's the small details that make it superior. In addition, I don't like how Red Hat has spoken about open source and how they actually feel about it in the past.
i prefer the defult gnome of Fedora, i've seen inconsistencies and broken stuff using Ubuntu
I also can't install it... it just hangs at some early point when copying files. So I tried Kubuntu instead and it just shows a background and nothing happens.
ruclips.net/user/shortsmy--xIXP9_E where is the problem with install ?
